Last week, Dave and I went to pick out a new bike for him, and out to dinner. On a whim (okay, I was a week late), we stopped to get a pregnancy test on the way home. Granted, I've been late before, so I didn't have any big expectations when I peed on the stick this time. Except it came back...
My first thought: "f***, so much for coffee!"
I went to the bedroom to show Dave (who was still asleep, soundly, from the Nyquil he took the night before). I woke him up, and said "Look!!!".
He blinked a few times, rubbed his eyes, and must have not really read the test because he said "I don't know what that means?" He later told me that he was so tired that all he saw was a blurred line.
I don't know if I was more excited, or relieved, or what. I had to go to work later than evening so there really wasn't much celebrating. And perhaps there was a little apprehension thrown in: I'm 38, which is many circles is a "geriatric" or "high risk" pregnancy. I had been hitting my workouts pretty had the past few weeks. I hadn't really abstained from drinking (although I never got drunk)...I'm already thinking I messed up this opportunity.
I wasn't until Monday that I could make an appointment. Which wasn't available until July 30th. Hmmmm...guess I'll have to wait.
Until then:
Weight Gain? Nope. Actually lost a couple pounds compared to last week
Cravings? I am CONSTANTLY thirsty. So water, or juicy fruits like peaches.
Stretch Marks? Gawd, I hope not.
Sickness/nausea? Oddly, no. And a patient nearly puked in my face over the weekend.
Sex? Too early to tell, and unsure if we want to find out beforehand
Biggest Change? Tired. But unsure if it's because I'm not drinking caffeine in huge amounts.
Maternity clothes? Thankfully, no!
Sleep? A lot, and weird dreams. Like the one I had today: I was competing in a triathlon, but the swim portion was the second leg, and actually was a "paddle on your belly while on surfboards". My friend Sandy McL won, her husband came in second, but her husband was accused of cheating during the swim, even though he was also towing a toddler in an innertube. Double-yoooo-teeeee-effff?
What is Daddy doing? He's been great - very excited. And glad that I'm not making him abstain from his Jack and Diets
What I miss the most? Coffee, and sushi
Movement? Nope. Occasional tummy flips but nothing that stops me from what I'm doing.
What I look forward to? My first OB appointment. Dr. Edgar at ParkWest Women's Health is so awesome!
Exercise? Dr. Edgar said that as long as I eat an extra 300 calories a day, stay hydrated, and was able to speak in short sentences during my run, I was okay. Today I went on my first run since finding out I'm pregnant. It was really hot, so it was a slow run-walk. And I definitely felt sluggish, but proud to get out there and do something good for myself. It's just really hard at this point because I'm one to rarely walk during my workouts. Trying to stay pregnant-stealth for a while!
